Submissions

 

Malakoda Red is open to all genres of fiction. Malakoda Red encourages submissions from diverse voices and perspectives. We publish fiction on our Youtube channel/Audio podcast/Once a year as a short story anthology/ On this website. Up to 15,000 words in length.

We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere. Please prepare your submission according to standard guidelines. 12pt Time new roman or Arial, with double-spaced lines. We only accept electronic submissions.

Allow 8-12 weeks for a response.

Payment and Rights

 Payment: For standard acceptances, Malakoda Red pays 5% of the first year of sales of the Anthology.

Rights: For this eventual payment, Malakoda Red purchases the following rights:

First World Serial Rights
First World Electronic Rights
Non-Exclusive World Audio Rights
Non-Exclusive World Anthology Reprint Rights

(This means that our payment buys the rights to publish your story on the Malakoda Red website and in our print copy of the short story anthology and to publish an audio podcast/Youtube video if we choose your story.)

(You can’t publish that story as a first-run or “new” story anywhere else in the world, and you can’t have it appear anywhere else, in print or online or as audio, before 365 days after we publish the book. But after that, you can have it reprinted online and/or in a reprint magazine and/or in a reprint anthology, and you can resell non-exclusive audio rights, like to one of the many fiction podcast zines.)
